RUMIGEN’s People: Noraly van Hemert!

European Forum of Farm Animal Breeders (EFFAB) / Farm Animal Breeding and Reproduction Technology Platform (FABRE TP)

I am a recent graduate in Animal Sciences that joined the EFFAB team in 2021 as a Junior Projects Officer. After obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Animal Husbandry, I felt the itch that I wasn’t ready yet. That is why I enrolled in the Master’s program Animal Sciences at WUR. Within my Master’s, I specialised in both animal breeding & genetics and adaptation physiology. To finalise my degree, I wrote two theses. For my genetics specialisation, I focused on the compatibility of pedigree and genomic information in single-step genomic evaluations in a multi-breed context. I investigated whether lactation length still affects reproductive performance in modern sows for adaptation physiology. I am keen to use my knowledge to disseminate and transfer knowledge to broader audiences. I think it is essential to make science and research accessible to everyone interested and beyond!

In the RUMIGEN project, I work with the whole EFFAB team to communicate and disseminate the generated results. To do this, we support and create materials to target stakeholders such as the breeding sector and consumers.
