This deliverable provides practical guidelines for adapting dairy cattle breeding objectives to future environmental conditions while safeguarding genetic diversity. Building on the results generated across the RUMIGEN project, it translates scientific findings into practical recommendations for breeding organisations, breed associations, AI centres and other stakeholders. The guidelines focus on four main areas: animal health and welfare, genetic diversity and long-term resilience, adaptation to climate change and heat stress, and the potential role of gene editing. Overall, the aim is to support breeding strategies that maintain productivity while promoting healthier, more robust and resilient animals and preserving genetic diversity for future generations.
